Tropical Burst is a hybrid from Seed Junky Genetics, bred by JBeezy. It crosses a pairing of Orange Push Pop and Banana Cream Cake with Zkittlez BX2, a backcrossed line of the Zkittlez family.
Seed Junky released it in California in winter 2023. The release earned a perfect 100 out of 100 from Leafly senior editor David Downs, who called it a perfect Zkittlez.
JBeezy's take on Zkittlez
JBeezy made his name with Wedding Cake, the Triangle Kush × Animal Mints cross that Leafly named its 2019 Strain of the Year. Tropical Burst takes that program into fruit-forward Zkittlez territory.
The Zkittlez BX2 side is two backcross generations deep. Original Zkittlez came from Terp Hogz and was popularized with 3rd Gen Family, and it won first place at the 2016 Emerald Cup. Leafly traces it to Grape Ape and Grapefruit, and it also took the 2023 King of Z Hill title.
The other side joins Orange Push Pop and Banana Cream Cake. Downs describes Tropical Burst as a refined version of Zkittlez, keeping the Z base while improving on it. Leafly's strain page credits it with denser buds and heavier trichome coverage than the Z line it came from.
Bigger, denser buds than the original Z
Downs singles out the flower itself. Compared with original Zkittlez, he found improved bud size, color, structure and density, with a coat of white resin over the buds.
The sample he reviewed tested at 2.58% terpenes. Leafly's strain page lists THC at about 30%, well above average.
JBeezy counts Tropical Burst among his current favorite smokes, according to the review. He uses it for creative work and describes settling into a flow state with it.
A 2023 California release at $45 an eighth
Seed Junky put Tropical Burst on California shelves in winter 2023 at $45 per eighth. Leafly's review reports batch sizes of 20–30 pounds, a sizable run for a single cultivar.
The review ran on January 2, 2024. Leafly's strain page echoes it, describing a cultivar that amplifies the classic Z fruit while adding cream, orange, banana and cake, along with denser buds and heavier trichome coverage.
Seed Junky now sells it well beyond a single format. Weedmaps lists Tropical Burst buds from 1g up to a full ounce, with eighths, quarters and halves in between. Listings run through dispensaries including GreenField and Herbology, with prices of $18–21 for an eighth.
A bright, sativa-leaning hybrid
Although the strain carries a hybrid label, Downs calls it a very strong, deep sativa hybrid. Seed Junky's own product copy describes a bright sativa experience.
The brand describes a giggly, motivational high that builds focused inspiration, and it pitches the strain for creative work and busy days. Weedmaps effect tags include creative, energetic, euphoric, focused and uplifted.
Leafly users report a similar picture, with uplifted, energetic and euphoric leading the list.
Weedmaps classes Tropical Burst as a sativa-dominant cross, while Leafly keeps it in the hybrid category. Both tie it to the same Seed Junky parents and the same Zkittlez BX2 line.
