Wedding Cake is an indica-dominant hybrid from Seed Junky Genetics, bred by JBeezy. He crossed his prized Animal Mints male to the Triangle Kush cut, and the plant that came out of that cross became one of the defining cultivars of the late 2010s.
The biggest mark on its record came in December 2019, when Leafly named Wedding Cake its Strain of the Year.
JBeezy's Animal Mints male meets Triangle Kush
The cross started out under the Triangle Mints name, a nod to both parents. Leafly still lists Triangle Mints #23 as an alias, along with Pink Cookies, the name the strain carries in Canada.
Seed Junky's product copy calls the result a must-have cultivar. It describes dense, evenly colored buds under a generous layer of trichomes, and it positions the strain as a refined choice for cultivators.
How Jungle Boys gave it a name
The name that stuck did not come from Seed Junky. According to Seed Junky's own product listing, Jungle Boys gave the plant its Wedding Cake nickname.
Leafly's 2019 announcement credits JBeezy as the breeder and lists Wedding Cake as a phenotype of Triangle Mints. By then the Jungle Boys nickname was the name on shelves across legal markets.
Leafly's 2019 Strain of the Year
Leafly gave Wedding Cake the title for its spread around the world, its cultural influence and its overall impact. Search interest in the strain rose 100% year over year from early 2019, and it appeared on more than 10,000 store menus.
Those listings covered flower, dabs and vape cartridges. Leafly's announcement, written by Danté Jordan, also named Purple Punch and GMO Cookies as major strains of that year. Gelato had taken the title in 2018.
The same piece notes that Wedding Cake won multiple cannabis cups, including first and second place finishes in indica flower categories. Leafly measured the strain at about 21% THC in 2019, and its current strain page lists 24%.
Resin, yield and a 7–9 week flower
Seed Junky describes high yields of extremely resinous flower, and it points to extractors, hash makers and growers as the strain's core audience. The strain's presence on dab menus in Leafly's 2019 count fits that profile.
Leafly puts flowering at 7–9 weeks indoors, with outdoor plants finishing from September into October. It rates the plant as suited to intermediate and advanced growers, indoors or out, with average yields in its growing guide. Flavor runs toward vanilla, pepper and butter.
A parent for the next wave of crosses
Breeders picked up Wedding Cake quickly. Leafly lists Ice Cream Cake and LA Kush Cake among its offspring.
Cannarado Genetics crossed it with its own Grape Pie to make Wedding Pie, which Jungle Boys later commercialized in California. Symbiotic Genetics used the Jungle Boys cut of Wedding Cake as the mother of Wedding Crasher, pairing it with a Purple Punch F2 male.
The line keeps extending. Greenpoint Seeds has released Wedding Night, a cross of Wedding Cake back to Wedding Pie, which puts JBeezy's cut on both sides of the pedigree.
