The name is a tell about the target. Umami is the Japanese term for the savory taste — often rendered as the essence of deliciousness — and "Butter" points at the smooth, fatty side of the profile. Maven did not reach for a fruit or candy name, and the flower explains why.

Maven Genetics is breeder and brand. Its strain library lists the cross as Gelatti x Black Diamond X. Gelatti is Gelato crossed with Biscotti, bred by the Cookies Fam collective in California. Biscotti in turn traces to Gelato #25 and a South Florida OG. That side supplies dough, cream, pepper and fuel rather than bright fruit — which is exactly why the finished cultivar reads savory instead of sweet.
Black Diamond X is Maven's own XXX OG x Black Diamond OG indica. Maven's copy for that parent describes earth, musk and diesel undertones, a savory character to match, and total body relaxation alongside a euphoric head buzz. Umami Butter's signature is legible as both parents pulling the same direction.
That parent also anchors a family. Maven's library lists Black Diamond X behind Fantasma, Chroma, RS-X, Black Lotus and Apples and Diamonds, which makes it easy to hear what it contributes beside different partners. The similarly named Phantom X does not appear in Maven's library, so do not assume a shared parent there.
