California Artisanal Medicine, better known as CAM, is a cultivation-led cannabis brand founded by Anna Willey in Colorado in 2009 and relaunched in California in 2018. Anna Willey and the Colorado origin
Willey began as a home grower and opened the original Colorado Alternative Medicine dispensary in Denver in 2009. Interviews describe her as the first woman to open a Colorado cannabis dispensary, though that “first” is a historical claim repeated by CAM and PharmaCann rather than a state-issued title. She later sold the Colorado operation and brought the CAM concept to California.
The California version—California Artisanal Medicine—launched in 2018. Willey identifies first as a cultivator, and the company’s public history frames the business as woman-owned. CAM calls itself the country’s largest woman-owned cannabis producer; because no independent national ownership census was found, this profile keeps that statement attributed to the company.
California cultivation and scale
CAM operates indoor cultivation in Sacramento County. Current California licensing data identifies active cultivation and distribution operations associated with the brand, while CAM’s own store and delivery pages focus on its product catalog. A 2026 High Spirits podcast episode, citing BDSA data, described CAM as California’s number-two branded flower line with roughly $73 million in annual retail sales and a 2,500-light cultivation footprint. Those are attributed market estimates, not audited company financials.
Flower and genetics
The current catalog highlights Biscotti BX1, Bubba’s Girl, CAM’s Runtz, Cherry Markers, Devil Driver, Dosi Kush, Kush Mints, Super Silver Haze and other rotating cultivars. Historical and current pages also identify Formula 41, Lemon Cherry Gelato, Lemon Cherry Z, Coal Creek Kush and Permanent Marker. Pre-rolls, vapes and rosin gummies
Beyond flower, CAM sells one-gram pre-rolls, vape products and cannabis-infused rosin gummies. The gummy line was developed with Natura using rosin made from CAM flower. Its 2023 launch used pectin-based vegan gummies at 10 mg THC per piece and 100 mg per package, with flavors including Watermelon, Grape, Blue Raspberry and Sour Pineapple. Current flavors also include Chili Mango, Green Apple and Strawberry Kiwi.
CAM has also released collaborative hash holes and extraction projects with partners including Rosin Tech, Emerald Queen Farms, Kalya Extracts and Ispire. Partner attribution matters because a collaboration is not necessarily manufactured entirely by CAM.
Colorado return and multistate model
In August 2023 PharmaCann announced a licensing partnership to cultivate six CAM strains in Colorado and sell them through 28 LivWell locations. CAM’s later about page says the expansion reached 30 PharmaCann stores. The difference appears to reflect growth after launch. Colorado products are locally cultivated by the licensed partner; they are not California flower shipped across state lines.
Awards and notable results
Super Silver Haze won the 2025 California State Fair Golden Bear for indoor flower. Multiple reports, including the Sacramento Bee and the event’s judging partner Budist, place it in the indoor category. That corrects older copy that mislabeled the award as mixed-light. CAM’s Kush Mints also won at The Secret Session, and a CAM Tres Pesos collaboration with Hash & Flowers’ Honey Banana won a City Wide Smokeout pairing competition.
