Silver Iris OG is an indica-dominant hybrid from Maven Genetics, the San Fernando Valley breeder and indoor cultivator. It crosses Maven OG, one of the first strains the company ever offered, with Zkittlez.
The cross earned its spot through Maven's own customers. Maven says it was the most reviewed phenotype among its connoisseur community, the group of enthusiasts the company courts through its Connoisseur Club.
Maven OG comes back with a fruit side
Maven OG sits at the root of the company's catalog. Maven describes Silver Iris OG as a revival of that foundational OG work, sweetened with fruit from Zkittlez. The pairing sets a house OG base against a fruit cultivar that rose to prominence in the 2010s.
Maven started as a passion project in the Valley before growing into a licensed California operation. It grows indoors in multi-level rooms, hand-trims its flower and puts every cultivar through rigorous phenotyping before release.
Where the Zkittlez half comes from
Leafly now lists Zkittlez as The Original Z. Breeders adopted that name in 2023 after a trademark settlement with a candy company. Leafly traces the strain to Grape Ape and Grapefruit, crossed with a third line, and credits its creation to a grower known as Gas Station Bob.
Terp Hogz growers Fields and Tony Mendo, along with 3rd Gen Family's Brandon Parker, grew it competitively and bred new crosses from it. Zkittlez took first place at the 2016 Emerald Cup and won King of Z Hill in 2023. Leafly also records placements at Cannabis Cups in San Francisco and Michigan.
On the plant, Leafly describes medium-sized, spongy green colas. It lists Zkittlez at about 20% THC and 1% CBG, and it continues to be refined by its original breeders and other cultivators.
Sage green buds with amber hairs
Maven describes Silver Iris OG as elegant sage green buds with prominent amber hairs and a fine, pearly coat of trichomes. The flavor pairs earthy OG with floral citrus and a light fruit finish on the exhale. Maven frames the experience as grounded and content.
