Sour Sangria is a sativa bred and grown by Maven Genetics, the indoor flower house that started as a closet grow in the San Fernando Valley. It crosses Yuzu Mac with Pandora, two parents from Maven's own catalog.
The strain took first place for Best Sativa at KushStock in 2022. Maven still leads its product copy with that win, calling Sour Sangria an award-winning sativa.
Best Sativa at KushStock 2022
GrowDiaries records the KushStock result as a first-place finish in the sativa category in 2022. Maven's Leafly listing for the 14g Maven Minis format repeats the Best Sativa Award, and the Weedmaps listing opens with the same award-winning line.
A year later, at the 2023 High Times Cannabis Cup SoCal, the company took first place with Orange Bellini, another sativa in its library, and second with FKAFL.
Maven also placed Sour Sangria in its Spring 2023 Strain Collection, a seasonal drop built around a pheno-hunt. That lineup included Paradiso, Ube Crème and Grape Cuvée, and featured genetics from SeedJunky, Capulator and Compound Genetics.
Pandora, the third Black Box release
Pandora gives Sour Sangria its deeper side. Maven built it from Kush Mints 11 and Grape Cuvée and released it as the third edition of its limited Black Box Series.
The Black Box Series is where Maven places its most celebrated selections. The company hunts large populations and releases only standout plants. Blue Lotus, for example, was chosen from 12 phenotypes before it joined the series.
Pandora itself shows violet and fuchsia tones through pale green foliage under heavy trichome coverage. Maven's listing describes its effects as a warm, tingling start that settles into deep relaxation.
Yuzu Mac and Maven's sativa family
Yuzu Mac is the other parent, and Maven calls both halves of the cross its own. The company used Yuzu Mac again in Zuzu Berry, a Yuzu Mac × Blueberry ZKZ #14 cross listed next to Sour Sangria in the sativa section of Maven's strain library.
That section also holds Chrome Dome, Pineapple Biscotti, Lemon Cherry Tropicana, Orange Sapphire and Key Lime Jack, a Bling Cheesecake × Jack Herer cross.
The line has already moved forward a generation. BluZangria crosses Sour Sangria with Blueberry ZKZ and is also listed as a sativa. GrowDiaries puts it at 26–29% THC, with sapphire and violet hues through tight, resin-covered buds.
Blue and fuchsia flower from an indoor grow
Maven describes Sour Sangria as dense, resinous buds in vivid blue and fuchsia tones. GrowDiaries adds bright purple and deep green coloring, orange pistils and thick trichome coverage.
Reported flavors on Weedmaps run to berry, citrus and sweet earth. Reported effects lean uplifting, creative and focused, with a calm, reflective edge.
GrowDiaries lists a flowering time of 8–10 weeks and THC up to 28%, with about 0.1% CBD. It rates cultivation as moderate to difficult and better suited to experienced growers.
Maven grows its harvests indoors and holds them to what it calls seed-to-sale quality control. Sour Sangria also ships as Maven Minis, a 14g bag of hand-trimmed smaller buds. Maven says the minis keep the same terpene depth, potency and smoking quality as its full-size flower.
