Khalifa Kush, known as KK and designated K1, is the flagship cultivar of Wiz Khalifa's Khalifa Kush brand. It was developed for Wiz in the early 2010s, tailored to his personal tastes, and kept in his private stash in Los Angeles.
The plant came before the company. Wiz chose to share it in 2014, and the first flower sales followed in 2016 at Tryke's Reef Dispensaries in the Southwest.
From a private Los Angeles stash to Tryke's Reef
For its first few years, KK stayed in Wiz's personal stash. Everything the brand now sells traces back to that single cultivar, built around one person's preferences.
The move to legal retail took two years. After the 2014 decision to release it, KK reached shelves in 2016 through Tryke's Reef, a dispensary group in the Southwestern U.S. That first run of flower became the base for a product line that now covers flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles and concentrates.
The company is still based in Pittsburgh, where it started. The KK designation, K1, also set up the numbering system the brand uses for every cultivar that followed.
An OG hybrid with a California build
Abby Leaf, the licensed Canadian grower of KK, lists it as a hybrid built on an OG lineage developed in California in the early 2010s and widely associated with OG Kush. The full parent pair has never been published.
Abby Leaf's flower shows tight, forest-green buds with bright orange pistils and heavy resin and trichome coverage. It sells as 3.5-gram jars and 0.5-gram pre-rolls, both listed at 30%+ THC.
Limonene, myrcene and beta-caryophyllene lead its terpene list, with exact order set by each lot's lab results. On the palate it runs citrus, lemon and pine with an earthy finish.
K2 to K5: the family built on KK
KK is also breeding stock. Every numbered release after it carries KK or one of its offspring, and each one was hand-selected by Wiz before it went to market.
Khalifa Mints, the K2, crosses KK with The Menthol. It built a following inside Compound Genetics, the brand's genetics partner, and was the first pheno Wiz picked to expand the menu beyond KK. The brand describes it as a mix of classic OG gas, creamy gelato and menthol.
Violet Sky, the K3, takes Khalifa Mints and crosses it with GastroPop. Work on it began in early 2021, and it emerged as the third cultivar in the lineup in late 2022, with dark purple buds and orange hairs.
Baby Turtle, the K4, pairs KK with a favorite Jokerz #31 pheno, itself a cross of White Runtz and Jet Fuel Gelato. It won out after an extended pheno hunt of sampling and selection.
Point Breeze, the K5, crosses KK with Gastro Pop. The name nods to the Pittsburgh neighborhood where the company started and where it is still based.
Licensed growers from Ohio to British Columbia
Khalifa Kush does not grow its own flower. Licensed operators cultivate KK market by market, so the grower on the jar changes with the state or country.
In Canada, that grower is Abby Leaf Inc., a Health Canada licensed operation in Abbotsford, British Columbia, supplying Canadian and international markets. In Ohio, Wondergrove grows it. The brand launched there in July 2025 exclusively at Bloom dispensaries in Columbus, South Columbus, Akron, Painesville Township and Seven Mile, with KK sold alongside Khalifa Mints, Violet Sky, Baby Turtle and Point Breeze.
The Ohio launch billed KK as the flagship, known for its OG structure, potency and smooth, classic flavor. Wondergrove CEO Nicole Stark said the team aimed to honor the brand's legacy while bringing something new to Ohio.
The brand's own list of U.S. markets covers Arizona, California, Washington, D.C., Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington. Abroad, it names Germany, Switzerland and the U.K.
