Apples and Bananas
Apples and Bananas is Compound Genetics' first collaboration with Cookies, released in 2019 and built from ((Platinum Cookies x Granddaddy Purple) x Blue Power) x Gelatti. Breeder Christopher Lynch pulled it out of a Jet Fuel Gelato seed collection. The profile is built on tart fruit over savory gas, wrapped in dense, colorful, resin-heavy flower.
Where It Comes From
Christopher Lynch founded Compound Genetics in Portland, Oregon in 2017. Apples and Bananas followed in 2019 and came out of one of Compound's Jet Fuel Gelato seed collections rather than a purpose-built project. The Cookies partnership started in person: Lynch met Berner at MJBizCon in 2019 and handed him jars of the strain.
Lynch's own framing of the split was blunt. He made the strains, Berner made the marketing and branding. That is an unusually clean statement of how a modern cannabis brand collaboration actually works, and it explains how far the name traveled. Timing helped, too. Apples and Bananas landed as fruit-and-gas hybrids were consolidating into the premium category, carrying a name consumers could repeat and a profile they could actually identify.
By December 2021, Compound was releasing an entire Apples and Bananas seed collection at the Emerald Cup, with Apples and Bananas S1 plus crosses with Pave, Big Face, and White Runtz among them. Lynch described crossing it with the Cookies staples across the board.
The Cross
Compound Genetics bred it in collaboration with Cookies, with the lineage recorded as ((Platinum Cookies x Granddaddy Purple) x Blue Power) x Gelatti. Each side contributes something identifiable.
Platinum Cookies is a clone-only Thin Mint GSC phenotype, bringing dough, sweetness, and dense structure. Granddaddy Purple is Purple Urkle x Big Bud, source of the dark fruit and the purple expression. Blue Power comes from Sin City Seeds, itself Power x White Moonshine, tracing back through Sour Dubble and Blueberry lines.
Gelatti is Cookie Fam Genetics, recorded as Gelato x Biscotti for the creamy fuel, and its Gelato side traces to Sherbinskis' work with Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Cookies. Note that Blue Power is the outside genetic in an otherwise Cookies-adjacent stack, and it does more work than its billing suggests. The berry-and-fuel tension in the finished plant traces largely to that side.
Flower is typically dense and trichome-heavy, green with purple shading and orange pistils, the Granddaddy Purple influence showing up visually.
What It Left Behind
The documented significance is in breeding and market influence, and that record is strong. Apples and Bananas launched the Compound and Cookies relationship, seeded an entire product line of its own crosses at the 2021 Emerald Cup, and now anchors dozens of direct descendant hybrids.
