Mothership Glass is a Pacific Northwest artist collective founded by Scott Deppe in 2013. It designs and handcrafts high-end functional glass, combining recycler engineering, sacred-geometry percolation, carved color work and precious-metal fuming with a limited-drop retail model.
Scott Deppe's path into glass
Deppe was born in Idaho and moved to Bellingham, Washington, shortly before he began making pipes. After seeing a blown-glass spoon at a Grateful Dead show in 1993, he bought a torch and glass and began experimenting at home. Apart from an early goblet class with Brian Kerkvliet, the company describes him as largely self-taught.
Mothership formed in 2013
After two decades of individual work, Deppe established Mothership as a glass-artist collective in the Pacific Northwest. Early pieces such as Take Me to the Mothership and Deady Bear, plus Team Japan collaborations, preceded the studio. The company remains owned and operated by Deppe and describes its output as handmade by a small team.
Original models define the catalog
The model library includes the Torus, Klein, Fab Egg, Ball Rig, Exosphere, Skygazer, Straight Fab, SFT, BKT, FKT and Egg Rig. These are functional forms rather than simple color variants. For example, the Torus uses an internal recycler and seed-style percolation, while the Ball Rig routes vapor through an inner solid-glass sphere before the water chamber.
Percolation and sacred geometry
Mothership's Seed of Life percolator provides 18 diffusion points per seed, while the Flower of Life version provides 72. The studio also develops rotational caps that create a vortex in a banger and single-channel flower slides intended to simplify cleaning. These are the brand's own engineering descriptions, not independent performance tests.
Hologram glass and decorative technique
Deppe's technical history includes reticellos, disk flips and detailed geometric construction. Mothership's Hologram process uses silver and gold fume to create layered imagery within finished glass. Color Elite and archive galleries document carved artwork, CFL-reactive colors and past Torus, Klein, Fab Egg, Straight Fab, SFT, Ball Rig and Exosphere pieces.
Current drops, quartz and accessories
The Drop Zone carries limited rigs, caps, slides, quartz, pendants, drinkware and clothing. A current snapshot ranges from production accessories to multi-thousand-dollar rigs, including clear and colored models and MS x Toro quartz collaborations. Custom work, retailers and repairs
Customers can request a model and colors for a custom piece, buy through Mothership's worldwide retailer network or order eligible products directly. The company also offers repairs and ships standard orders within the United States and Canada, with international inquiries handled separately. Limited output means availability should never be inferred from an old gallery image.
Award and museum recognition
Scott Deppe received the Emerald Cup's 2022 Visionary Award for Glass Artistry. A separate institutional milestone followed when two 2022 collaborations with Ryan “Buck” Harris entered the Museum of Glass permanent collection: Jaguar contains functional glass made by Deppe, and Polar Bear incorporates Mothership's Exosphere design. The museum describes the group as its first permanent-collection examples of functional glass pipes.
